The Chair (Ted Bilyea) and President and CEO (David McInnes) of the Canadian Agri-food Policy Institute have highlighted the competitive advantage that the Canadian agri-food system has in feeding a hungry world. In brief, Canada’s natural endowment (low animal and human population density on arable land; freshwater endowment; winter, etc.) provides Canadian producers and processors, given the right regulatory environment and capital investment, with an opportunity to profitably brand Canadian product and provide buyers and consumers with trust in Canadian product. This is especially the case in regulations pertaining to environmental sustainability.
